Green Tea History
Prior to the 17th Century tea had not colour until it accidentally ended up turning black during its transportation. Green Tea has a wonderful history and has been around dating as far back as 5000 years ago!
Based on some chinese stories the history of Green Tea dates back to 2737BC. A man called Shien Non Shei found the Green Tea plant and tasted a Green Tea leaf. Of course he thought it tsated great and decided to mix the Green Tea leaf with water. This same man believed that Green Tea had medicinal purposes. How right he was!
Other Green Tea history states that Shen Nung, Emperor, came upon the Green Tea leaf when it feel into a hot cup of water that he was drinking.
Green Tea history indicates that Green Tea appeared during the second century in China when sun dried Green Tea leaves were added to boiled water. The Ancient Chinese began to prepare Green Tea in a pie shape around the 7th century and baked it. It was then smashed and boiled at tea time. According to Green Tea history, Pie Green Tea was incredibly popular until it was banned in 1391.
Green Tea was introduced into Korea the same time as Buddhism towards the late 4th centure. The first Green Tea was planted, according to Green Tea history, in 805 AD when a returned Japanese monk brought back seeds from the Zhejiang Province. Japan still uses these same Green Tea steaming methods.
Pie Green Tea, according to Green Tea history, was replaced by Green Tea in loose leaf form and the steaming method was replaced by the Green Tea roasting method. There were 58 recorded Teas at that time and of the 15 still in production 13 of them are, in fact, Green Teas.
According to Green Tea history, in 1673 Chinese Green Tea was imported into England for the first time and subsequently England started Green Tea plantations in India.
The Chinese have enjoyed the health benefits of Green Tea for around 5000 years and was the regular drink of choice among the wealthy and privileged in China. Green Tea leaves were used used fresh and either lightly heat processed or actually consumed straight away. According to Green Tea history, Green Tea in ancient China was very expensive. However, after the fall of the Mongolian Empire in 1368AD all of China began to experience the wonderful benefits of Green Tea.
According to Green Tea history and folklore between 1405 and 1433 seamen regularly consumed Green Tea to fight off scury which ended up killing many European sailors many years later. Green Tea consumption was introduced into America, according to history, by Europe as a result of worldwide trade and additionally by Chinese migrants who ended up owning Chinese restaurants in the US.
